Paul Salet

Sculpture Furniture

As a free artist Paul Salet (1956) is working all his life with used materials, wood and found objects . In 2015 he started a series of chairs, named SOURIS. These were existing pieces  but seemed to have lost their value. That is the starting point for the sculptor  to liberate a chair by carving and sculpturing within the boundaries of the original. The result is a light, but functional and strong piece of furniture, once again in touch with its origin, the forest.
Paul  spend his childhood in the woods of Brabant, The Netherlands  and in the factory of his grandfather where oak furniture  was produced. He loved the trees and the smell of wood when craftsmen were working with it.  It never left him, though he studied and practiced social psychology in Amsterdam.
He decided in 2010 to completely dedicate his working life to wood, furniture and sculpture.
“There is a crack in everything,  that’s how the light gets in”.
He started his Objet Trouvé and in 2016 the name of the atelier was changed into PaulSalet.
He finds his inspiration in nature itself, in the forest, the beaches and in the streets of the city where  old furniture and readymades can be found.
