Merel Schoutendorp grew up in Amsterdam and studied at the Rietveld academy.
With her paintings she wants to create dreamy futuristic spaces that could give the viewer the opportunity to imagine different stories. She uses self-made photos and imagined scenes. Nature is the main subject of her work, but at the same time she is always looking for abstraction and something futuristic. Something that allows nature and environment to merge, but also to clash. Plants interact with their background and grow in unreal environments. The undulating landscapes consisting of fragmentary motifs flow together into a poetic landscape. The many thin layers of oil paint provide a soft structure.
